It offers the following advantages:
(1) Significant effect in limiting short-circuit current;
(2) Improved conditions for motor self-starting. Since the through-impedance of a split-winding transformer is lower than that of a two-winding transformer of the same capacity, the voltage drop across the transformer is smaller when starting current flows, allowing greater starting capacity;
(3) When a short-circuit fault occurs in one branch of the split winding, the bus voltage on the other branch of the split winding drops only slightly, thus maintaining normal operation.
