Emergency Response Procedures for Power Transformer Fires

2026-02-09 Visits:
During the use of power transformers, numerous uncertain factors and external influences can lead to fires, which are highly hazardous incidents. Failure to address them promptly may result in the fire spreading and causing greater losses. Therefore, timely response is crucial to minimize damage as much as possible.
Generally, the emergency response procedures for power transformer fires include:
  1. Disconnect the circuit breakers on all sides of the transformer to cut off the power supply, and promptly activate the backup transformer to restore power.

  2. Stop the operation of the cooling system.

  3. In the event of a fire involving the main transformer or high-voltage plant transformer, it is essential to first trip the generator.

  4. If the fire is on the transformer cover, open the emergency oil drain valve at the bottom of the transformer to lower the oil level appropriately. If the fire originates inside the transformer, do not drain the oil, as this could trigger an explosion.

  5. Simultaneously, use fire extinguishing equipment to suppress the fire promptly. To prevent the situation from escalating, it is necessary to notify the fire department immediately.

Of course, in the event of a transformer fire, it is important to remain calm. By adhering to the procedures outlined above, losses can be effectively minimized.
